# Upgrade System

Unleash the TRUE potential of your items

The Upgrade System is used widely throughout Space Guardians on most of the craftable and NFT items including Spaceships, Weapons, and Utility Mods.

As mentioned earlier in [**The Experience System**](/defverse-nft/sg/game-design/experience-system.md) section, all items in <mark style="color:blue;">**Space Guardians**</mark> are upgradeable and use the experience you gain during most aspects of gameplay, to level up your items.  &#x20;

This increases their potency at a flat rate of **1%** for **every level** you earn on that item.
