Understanding the affects of elemental damage

The Elemental Affinity Matrix determines the percentage of damage received by the target when hit with a specific element, while using a shield with an elemental attribute of its own. The values are expressed as percentage of base damage (before modifiers such as damage increase, and penetration etc).
