# Elemental Modifiers

*Elemental modifiers provide protection (but also weakness) to certain elements.   There are a variety of elements in the game which have different effects upon each other.*  &#x20;

## The Basics

*Each element has a different affect upon another. Sometimes there are no elemental attributes to a weapon / shield, which means they take a flat 100% damage from that source, if they don't have any elemental attribute / resistance.*\
\
*However, if your shields had a <mark style="color:red;">**FIRE**</mark> Elemental Resistance of **10%** then any damage received from weapons of <mark style="color:red;">**FIRE**</mark> type would do **10% less damage**.*

## The "not so" Basics

*OK so the modifier above relates only to damage received from <mark style="color:red;">**FIRE**</mark> on a <mark style="color:blue;">standard shield with NO elemental affinity</mark>. This is where it gets a little bit more complicated.*\
\
*When 2 items with elemental affinity collide, they default to the laws of elemental affinity. Yes, it's a real thing. We think. After this rule set has been applied, the resistances are calculated as a percentage of the modified percentages. Complicated, right?*\

\
*<mark style="background-color:yellow;">Enemy fires a</mark> <mark style="color:blue;background-color:yellow;">**WATER**</mark> <mark style="background-color:yellow;">weapon which hits your</mark> <mark style="color:orange;background-color:yellow;">**STORM**</mark> <mark style="background-color:yellow;">shield.</mark>  <mark style="background-color:yellow;"></mark><mark style="background-color:yellow;">**Enemy should do 80% damage.**</mark>  <mark style="background-color:yellow;"></mark><mark style="background-color:yellow;">You are SUPER SNEAKY, and have a</mark> <mark style="color:green;background-color:yellow;">**15% resistance**</mark> <mark style="background-color:yellow;">to all</mark> <mark style="color:blue;background-color:yellow;">**WATER**</mark> <mark style="background-color:yellow;">damage.</mark>*  \
\
\&#xNAN;*<mark style="background-color:yellow;">`MATH TIME!         80% x 0.85 = 68%`</mark>*\
\
\&#xNAN;*<mark style="background-color:yellow;"><mark style="color:blue;">You now only take 68% damage from that same attack because you have an awesome ship that has 15% resistance to all WATER attacks!<mark style="color:blue;"></mark>*&#x20;
